Cat Frequently Asked Questions
Cat Pheromones
Pheromones are natural chemical signals animals of the same species use to communicate and interact with each other. Cats and dogs of all shapes and sizes produce a wide range of pheromones. Each type of pheromone sends a different signal that influences behaviors. bSerene specifically mimics F3 facial pheromones, which helps cats mark their territory as safe, and The Maternal Appeasing Pheromone which mimics feline appeasing pheromones that are released by mother cats with their kittens to promote bonding and socialization while helping with hiding and fighting.
Cats use facial pheromones to mark their territory as a safe place they can trust. They do this by rubbing their face against walls, furniture and even your legs! When this pheromone is present, these comforting messages help cats feel safe and secure in their environment. The pheromone in bSerene mimics the natural feline facial pheromone to reassure your cat by using messages they naturally understand to mark their space as safe so he or she can feel calm and relaxed even in times of chaos.
Since pheromones are species specific, you don’t have to be worried about dogs, other animals or humans being affected by the bSerene calming cat pheromones.
Cat Diffuser
We recommend replacing the refill vial every 30 days or when the liquid runs out. The plug-in unit should be replaced after 6 months of use or after you have used three refill vials (whichever comes first!)
For the diffuser, you will start to see your cat become calmer and more relaxed over the course of seven days of continuous use. For the spray, you will start to see results within 30 minutes of spraying.
The diffuser should be used around your home continuously when you notice your cat displaying signs of stress such as: spraying, hiding, fighting, peeing outside the litter box, and scratching. The diffuser will help your cat feel more comfortable when unexpected disruptions in your life occur such as visitors, storms, or loud noises.
The plug-in should be used in rooms that your cat spends most of its time. Avoid using outlets that are under windows, near air vents or close to doors as drafts will impair proper diffusion of the pheromones. DO NOT plug the diffuser into a power strip or surge protector. The vial should always be directly below the plug-in unit for proper diffusion and to prevent leakage. To ensure the vial is always below the plug-in unit, there is a swivel function on the prongs for outlets with horizontal orientations.
One diffuser covers 750 sq ft of space. We recommend having a diffuser in each room your cat spends time in for maximum effectiveness.
To keep the good vibes flowing, you should keep your diffuser plugged in at all times. If you notice your diffuser collecting dust, please unplug and follow the cleaning instructions in the user manual found in every box.
The pheromones are diffused when the plug-in unit heats up. As with any heating element, a slight smell may be present and is totally normal. If you find your diffuser has a stronger smell, please call us and we will be happy to troubleshoot with you!
Vapor is normal to see as the pheromone is diffused. However, if you see smoke – please make sure you have the unit plugged in up-right with the vial on the bottom according to the user manual. Feel free to call us and we will walk you through proper installation!
Besides your pet being cool, calm and collected – you will start to see the liquid in the vial slowly reducing over the 30 days. If you do not see a reduction in liquid over time, test your outlet and make sure it is operating. It may take 3-7 days to see the full effects of the pheromones.
The process of diffusion requires heat. It is okay if the diffuser head feels warm to the touch.
There is considerable confusion around this topic, as “multi-cat” can be used to express (a) simply having more than one cat in the home, as well as, (b) resolving fighting/hiding issues when there are aggression issues with multi-cats in the home.
Fortunately, bSerene works in both of these instances. bSerene includes the facial pheromone that helps resolve tension when cats are fighting, or when one cat is the aggressor and the other(s) are hiding. Our product also contains a higher pheromone content and our technology allows the diffuser to last 45 days instead of 30.
Plug the diffuser into an outlet in the UPRIGHT position. The vial must always be below the plug. The diffuser must be plugged in a 110 V wall outlet continuously for the recommended duration of use. Do not plug the diffuser into a power strip, surge protector, or use with an adapter.
